Medical College of Kolkata is located in 32, Gorachand Road, Calcutta-700 014. It is also known as the Calcutta Medical college and the Calcutta National Medical College. This college was founded way back in 1835 with the objective of training the Indians in the field of medicine. This institution was the first one of its kind by the European authorities in India.
Admission to Medical College of Kolkata
Students who seek admission to the Medical College of Kolkata must clear the West Bengal Joint Entrance Medical Examination. It is also necessary for the students to pass out from a recognized school or college with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology at 10+2 level. The students are granted seat in general MBBS course, dental and ayurvedic course, depending on their ranking in Medical WBJEE. The college reserves special seats for students of schedule tribe and schedule caste background. Also a certain number of seats are reserved for students from the northeast and hilly regions of India. The total number of seats in the Calcutta Medical College for every academic session is 155.

The Calcutta Medical College Campus
The education complex includes 3 hostels for male students and one ladies' hostel. The Main Hostel, Deshbandhu hostel and the Lynton hostel, are sponsored by the government. For the facilitation of the students, a library is also housed. This library has a huge collection of medicine related books and journals. This apart, there is also a canteen and a computer center inside the premises of Calcutta Medical College.
