The Loreto Sisters arrived in Kolkata in the year 1841 with the aim of educating the young girls and women of the city. Loreto House was established in the city in 1842, after which several other Loreto schools were set up in different cities of India.
Loreto Day School Bowbazar is the second school after Loreto house, set up by the Loreto sisters in 1844. The school is affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. The higher secondary section of the school was opened in 1974. Students can study from Kindergarten to class XII. There are more than 1200 students and 59 staff members. The medium of instruction is English.
The school program includes the study of English and Mathematics as the main subjects. Students are guided in other areas like drama, music, dance, P.E, craft work and so on. Students can participate in basketball matches for which they are trained earlier. The different coaching groups that train the young girls are Girl Guide, Bulbuls, CLC and LTS. School offers good opportunity to showcase ones talents through plays, dramas, elocution, debate, sports and other activities.
The school runs a parallel school named Ashadeep which aims at educating the street children, so that they can also get admitted to regular schools with others. These students, ranging from 75 to 100 in number, are well guided by their teachers and allowed to participate in various events and programs. They are also provided with facilities like meal and regular health check up.

Loreto Day School, Sealdah is a popular English medium school, which was established in 1854. This is an Anglo Indian School that imparts education only to the girls. The school has around 1500 students and is affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. The XI and the XII classes are affiliated to the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.
Loreto Day School Curriculum comprises subjects that have been fixed by the Board. From Class I Bengali is taught as a second language. In Class VII and VIII, Studying Hindi as a third language is a must. The school also imparts training in Art, Value Education, Handicrafts, Indian Dancing and Choral Singing. Religious instructions are mainly for the Catholics studying in the school.

Loreto Day School Eliot Road was established on January 10, 1956. It was earlier a Primary school comprising Nursery to class IV. In the year 1960, it was recognized as Anglo-Indian Modern Secondary and later higher secondary School with KG classes to the XII standard. Later it got affiliated to the ICSE board on 22nd July, 1963. At present there are more than 1137 students and 56 teachers. Several programs and activities are organized regularly to nurture the potential in each pupil.
