At present, Fort William is the headquarters of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army. The huge Fort can support 10,000 army personals at a single point of time. The premises of Fort William houses sprawling shopping malls, movie halls, food joint, swimming pool, post office and playgrounds. The civilians can visit Fort William on week days from 10 in the morning to 5.30 in the evening. The canteen of the Fort is flooded with quality goods which are available at subsidized rates.
Fort William wears a festive look on days of national importance. The march past ceremony during the Independence Day and the Republic Day shows the discipline and patriotism of the Indian Army.
