Fish Paturi is one of the many mouth watering fish recipes from Calcutta. Bengalis are known for their preference for fish on their menu. Cooking fish paturi is easy and you can serve it at family gatherings and festive occasions. Different types of fishes are used for making fish paturi. You can try fish paturi with sea bass, cat fish, salmon, grass carp or halibut. The fish must be cut into small 2X2 inch squares.
Ingredients Required for Fish Paturi
- Fish: two pounds
- Yellow Mustard Seeds 5 Tbsp
- Haldi or Turmeric powder:2 teaspoons
- Green chili: 5 nos (For pasting)
- Red chili powder:1 tsp
- Sugar: 1 tsp

- Salt to taste
- ˝ teaspoon nigella
- 1 tablespoon mustard oil
- 8 sliced green chili
Process of Cooking Fish Paturi
Make a smooth paste of the mustard seeds, salt and green chilis. Mix this with sugar, turmeric powder, chili powder and sugar. Add oil. You can also add fresh coriander leaves. Marinate the fish in this mixture and leave aside for some time. Cut the banana leaves in 6X6 inch squares. Now envelope the fish pieces in the cut banana leaves and tie them with threads. Now cook these banana leaf envelopes in Microwave oven for thirty minutes at 400°Fahrenheit. Serve the Fish Paturi with steaming plain rice.
