Kolkata Film Festival is an annual event that is held around November every year. The Film Festival in Kolkata was initiated by Nandan, the West Bengal Film Center in 1995. Incidentally, Nandan was opened in 1985 by the legendary film maker Sri Satyajit Ray.
Nandan and Kolkata Film Festival
Nandan, the Film Centre in Kolkata was created by the Government of West Bengal in 1985 keeping in line with the tradition of Film Society movement in this state. In addition to providing the technical infrastructure for film projecting, it provided required information for cultivation of cinema as a serious subject. This impressive infrastructure prompted film makers to hold film exhibitions in Nandan.
Subsequently Nandan organized its independent film festival for the first time in 1995. The International Federation of Film Producers' Association (FIAPF) in Paris recognized this film festival as an international event within a few years from 1995.
