Founded in the year of 1864, Eden Gardens of Kolkata boasts to be among the first cricket grounds of India. In 1934, Eden Gardens hosted the first test match between India and England. The first one-day international match was played between India and Pakistan on the 18th of February in 1987. So far Eden Gardens has been the venue for 34 test matches.
Eden Gardens has witnessed several record-breaking matches. India had scored total runs of 657/7 against Australia in the test match that was played on 11th March 2001. This is the highest score till date that has been achieved in the world

famous cricket ground. In the one day international, played between Sri Lanka and Pakistan on the 27th of May in 1997, Sri Lanka had scored the highest run of 309.
There have been several remarkable individual achievements in Eden Gardens. In 2000-2001, in the test match against Australia, Harbhajan Singh happened to be the first bowler from India to simultaneously take three wickets. Anil Kumble gave his best performance in the final match of the Hero Cup against West Indies. His bowling statistics for that cricket match showed 12/6. VVS Laxman with his score of 281 against Australia in the year of 2000-2001, is the highest scorer at the Eden Gardens.
