Carmel High School Calcutta is a well known school for girls, affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. Carmel was established on 1st April in the year 1956. At that time it was known by the name of St. Mary's Carmel School. Located on the Deshapriya Park Road in South Kolkata, the school opened as a primary institution comprising lower kindergarten, upper kindergarten and classes I to IV. Students were instructed in Bengali and English.
As the school started growing, its expansion became a necessity. Therefore from class v onwards, the school was shifted to Gariahat, a posh locality of Calcutta. This school, known by the name of Carmel High School, got its recognition as a Higher Secondary School in the year 1969. Its curriculum comprised two streams namely Science and Humanities. However, the curriculum was revised in 1975 by the WBBSE.

Rules and Regulations of Carmel High School
- Students can leave the school premises during the school hours only if their parents are granted permission from the school authority
- Not allowed to gift anything to the staff or any friend
- Needs permission to organize tournaments or picnic
- Books can be issued from library only after an approval from the headmistress
- Teachers cannot be interviewed during class hours. They can do so during free time only after an appointment is made
- Students must be present during the Morning Assembly
Courses and Activities at Carmel High School
Students are required to take up the Madhyamik Parikhsha under the West Bengal board. Students are instructed in English. They need to study Hindi and Bengali as their first language in class x. Apart from their academic courses, they are also involved in different activities like sports, PT, social service and so on. The school comprises an Inter-Act Club formed by the Rotary Club, South Kolkata. There are quiz programs, scouting, leadership training service and many more events organized by the school to enhance the growth of every child.
