Established in the year 1858, Calcutta Rowing Club is considered to be the oldest rowing clubs of Kolkata. It is located at 15, Sarat Bose Road.
The boat house along with all its records of the Club disappeared in the cyclone of 1864. Only the Accounts of 1858-1859 could be preserved. From this record, we come to know that 6 boats were bought at Rs. 300. Next year, another 4 were purchased from Hong Kong for Rs. 448. A roofed boat house was constructed after the cyclone of 1864. This boat house was built at the coast of Hooghly. The course meant for boat races was around 1 mile away from Shalimar to the Fort Point.
In the year 1864, Blue and White colors were adopted as the Club colors. The club competed with the Madras Boat Club in 1869. In this boat race, Calcutta Rowing Club took away the first position. In 1889, a boat house was constructed on a permanent basis at Strand Road. However, as the river traffic was increased, racing on the River Hooghly was stopped and it

was shifted to the Dock of Kidderpore. In 1900, another boat house was built.
In 1901, this club joined the Amateur Rowing Association. Later, in 1906, C.R.C shifted to Majerhat. In 1923 the club won the famous Burma Bowl. In the same year, the Club became associated with the London Rowing Club.
In 1928, the club finally shifted to place where it stands now. This club has acquired a huge popularity after winning the Willingdon Trophy. The club organized the A.R.A.E. Regatta in the year 1961. this event achieved such trophies as Hoogly Cup, Venables Bowl and Willingdon Trophy.
C.R.C is not only popular among the Indians, but has got admiration from people across the globe. This club is around 143 years old. Now, C.R.C can also be called a social club, which is more popular for winning F.E.A.R.A., A.R.A.E., Head of the Lake Trophies and W.B.R.A.
