Traveling in Kolkata is cheap if you take the Kolkata buses. The city has a dense network of roads, which are well maintained. The traffic police ensure the enforcement of law and order. In spite of the traffic commotion, the people do reach their destination on time. The public buses in Kolkata include the state run government buses, the Calcutta State Transportation Buses, the Mini buses and private buses. In the recent years, the government has introduced a new kind of bus, called the White Liners.
While some of the buses ply passengers from Kolkata to suburban regions and villages, most buses of Kolkata commute passengers from one part of Kolkata to another. The public transport is not available at all hours of the day. The rush hour for the buses includes the time when office goers avail the bus service in the morning and evening.
