Education:
Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya did his schooling from Kalighat High School. He completed his graduation from University of Calcutta and also accomplished the degree in law from the same University.
Professional Life of Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya:
Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya was engaged as an Advocate in the Calcutta High Court. At the time of practicing as an advocate in Calcutta High Court, he was asked to take over the post of Honorable Judge of Calcutta High Court, which he refused to accept.
- In 1998, he became the Advocate General of the State of Tripura and a member of the Senate of the University of Calcutta. He served as an Advocate General up to the year 2003.

His has a strong association with organizations like World Bank, Asian Development Bank, Department of International Development, Kolkata Municipal Development Authority and other social organizations in Kolkata.
Political Life
From his school days, he had a connection with the Communist Party of India. He was arrested with other senior leaders for having an involvement with the students' movement. He was a strong contestant in 2005 Corporation election and eventually became the Mayor of Kolkata on 7th July 2005. Among the overall 141 seats, his party Left Front won 75 seats. NTC-BJP combine won 45 seats and Subrata Mukherjee's Unnayan Manch won 20 seats and one seat went to an independent candidate.
