Bakkhali


Bakkhali is the perfect place to go for a weekend outing from Kolkata. This beach destination is located some 132 kilometers from the city and takes few hours to travel by train and bus. The beach is not the typical sand and sun stretch but a vast clay beach. The appeal of the place lies in its tranquil ambiance. Tourists will come across trees and isolated boats near the coastal regions. It is not uncommon to spot fishermen returning with their catch in the early morning. In fact, Benfish, a fast food company dealing with fish items in Kolkata, imports fish from this place.

Enjoyment on the Bakkhali Beach

There is no better way to enjoy the Bakkhali beach than going for a walk down the beach, bare footed or with slippers on. The temperature remains moderate throughout the year except in the summer months. Tourists can travel to places such as Jumwadip from Bakkhali. Here, motor boat rides are real fun to indulge in. Tourists can also take a bus or hire a car and ride to Fraserganj.

Going to Bakkhali

The nearest railway stations from Bakkhali include Barakar and Kumardhubi. Also, the Asansol junction is located some 35 kilometers from the place. The most convenient route to take from Kolkata is via Diamond Harbor, Namkhana. Buses for Namkhana start from the Esplanade at 11 am every morning. From the bus stop at Namkhana, tourists have to cross the Hatania Doania river through ferries, after which there are direct buses to Bakhhali. It takes an hour and a half to reach Bakkhali after boarding the final bus.
