Location and Orientation of Kochi has made it an important city in India. Located in the Ernakulam District of Kerala, Cochin City is located on the southwestern coast of the country. The district of Ernakulam is bordered on three sides by the Idukki District, Thrissur District, Kottayam district and Alappuzha district on the east, north and south respectively. Situated almost at the sea level, the city has a coastline that extends to a length of about 48 kilometers.

Kochi lies in the geographical coordinates of 9° 58' North latitude and 76° 13' east longitude. Kochi India is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on its western boundary. Cochin India also has many cities and towns in close proximity that can be easily accessed from there. They are Mattancheri, Pallipuram, Kandakkadava, Narakal, Alleppey, Vypin, Kavaratti and Tekkumuri. Kochi is the second largest city of Kerala after Thiruvananthapuram, its capital.
