Indira Gandhi Boat Race, Cochin


Indira Gandhi Boat Race, Cochin is conducted on the last week of December month. A total of 16 snake boats race on the backwaters of Kochi during this grand festivals.

The Indira Gandhi Boat Race is a part of the Tourism Fair of Kochi. Held in the last week of the month of December, the race attracts large number of local people as well as tourists. The 16 boats of the race are handled by experienced oarsmen coming from all over South India.

Those who participate in the Indira Gandhi Boat Race
of Kochi primarily belong to the farmers’ and fishermen’s communities. While the race is on these fishermen and agriculturists performing as oarsmen get a scope to show their physical strength.
