Kochi Food is a blend of hot and spicy traditional dishes and beverages. Coconut and tamarind are also used to spice up the flavor of the mouth watering dishes. Food is served on banana leaves according to the traditional style. The Kochi dishes feature mostly vegetables and seafood dishes. However meat dishes are also consumed by the Kochi people.
Cuisine of Kochi
Being a city of Kerala, Kochi dishes are not very different from the Kerala dishes. Coconut water is generally drunk as a beverage. Some of the mouth watering dishes of Kochi are:
- Avil: This is mainly a vegetable dish. It is prepared with potato, drumstick, pumpkin, coconut sauce and chilly. However fruits like jackfruit, cashew nuts and mango are also used. Avil is consumed as a side dish.
- Sambar: This Kochi dish is a preparation of tomato, potato, drumstick and onion. Spices like chilly powder, coriander seeds and turmeric powder are used to add flavor to the dish.
- Rasam: Rasam is made of lemon, lentils, tomato and tamarind. This dish is regarded best for digestion.
- Paayasam: This is a sweet dish prepared with rice or noodles and milk.
