Kochi Corporation is the local administrative body in the city. The Corporation of Kochi is led by the Mayor. The city of Kochi is distributed into 70 administrative wards for the convenience of management and administration. It is from these administrative wards that the corporation council members are elected for tenure of five years.
The local government of Kochi, which is the Kochi Corporation, has separate departments and organizational divisions so that the work gets distributed equally. The total development and welfare of Kochi is taken care of by the Corporation at Kochi. There are also departments that take care of health and hygiene in the city. The Personal Department in the Corporation is endowed with the task of taking care of the general administration of the city.

Some of the most important departments and divisions of the Kochi Corporation deal with issues like Health, Revenue Collection, Accounts, Town Planning and Designing, Engineering and many more. There is also a separate Council section in the Corporation, Kochi. A center for general people called as ‘Janaseva Kendram’ helps in solving the general issues that are faced by the common people of the city. Special importance is given to female welfare and childcare. There are many child welfare centers as well as maternity homes that are run by the Kochi Corporation.
The main head office of the Corporation of Kochi is located at Ernakulam. However there are zonal offices of the Corporation, which are located at Palluruthy, Vaduthala, Mattancherry, Edappally, Fort Kochi and Vyttila.
