Shri R.L Bhatia is the Chancellor and Dr. Gagan Prathap is the Vice- Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology. Cochin University was established with the aim of giving emphasis in the areas of science and research. In almost all the University departments, the students get the facility of specialization. This University also has tie ups with various foreign institutions and universities.
Cochin University of Science and Technology was established in the year 1971. It was initially known as Cochin University. From 1986, Cochin University came to be known by its present name. Cochin University of Science and Technology was established with the aim of developing higher education, with special emphasis on research and post graduate studies, in the areas of technology, applied science, commerce and industry.
The basic philosophy of the University is “Tejaswinavadhitamastu” which means “may light illumine us both”. This philosophy is represented in the Coat of Arms of the University. The Ministry of Human Resources Development of Indian Government has declared Cochin University of Science and Technology or CUSAT as an institution to be raised to the level of IIT. Academic collaboration of CUSAT has taken place with institutions of Europe, Japan, Korea, France, USA and Russia.

Location of Cochin University of Science and Technology
Cochin Science and Tech University is located 10 kilometers north of city of Ernakulam. Nedumbassery International Airport is 20 kilometers away from CUSAT. The main campus of the University covers an area of 180 acres. The main block of the University building has been built in the conventional architectural style of Kerala and has tiled roof. In the main campus of CUSAT, auxiliary institutions of the University, research and teaching departments, administrative office, guest house, hostels, computer center, complexes for visiting faculties, staff quarters, central library, bank, post office, health center, play grounds, telecom center, one gymnasium and courts are included. In Ernakulam there is another campus of CUSAT, which has men's hostel, School of Marine Sciences and School of Industrial Fisheries. Best facilities like sea going vessels and a jetty are provided to the students of marine and related subjects as the sea is very close to the University campus.
University Library of CUSAT
The library of CUSAT was established in the year 1977. The library is housed in a separate building, which is just opposite to the University's administrative block. The library remains open from 9.00 am to 8.00pm. The new arrivals in the library are displayed each Monday. Library remains open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on second Saturdays, Sundays ( excluding national holidays).
