Chinese Fishing Nets


Chinese Fishing Nets is one of the most famous attractions of Kochi. According to the myth, the fishing nets were brought to Kochi by the Chinese explorer Zheng He. A number of Chinese fishing nets are seen around the area of Vasco-da-gama square near Fort Cochin.

Chinese fishing nets are the most unusual means of fishing in Kochi. The nets are horizontally placed
on the bamboo and teak poles, by a huge apparatus. This mechanism lowers the nets into the sea while fishing. The height of the entire structure of the Chinese fishing net is about 10 meters. The function of the individual fishing nets depends on the state of the tides.
