Vivekananda House & Museum is a significant tourist attraction of Chennai which is quite close to the Lighthouse and Tiruvallikani Train stations. The Ram Krishna Mission has been given the lease of this museum by the State government.
Vivekananda House & Museum in its past
This well known Museum of Chennai city was initially a warehouse where ice from North India used to be stored. However, in the year 1897, Swami Vivekananda, on his way to Kolkata, put up in the building of the Museum. The building came under the possession of the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1930. It was in 1963 that the Museum was named after Swami Vivekananda.

The Museum is located on the Marina Beach Road. Auto rickshaws, buses and taxis are available in the city to reach this Museum. Also, since Chennai is connected to other cities through rail, road and air, hence, tourists from other Indian locations can also visit the museum conveniently.
