Viswanathan Anand


Viswanathan Anand is a world-known chess player. From the age of 16, Anand has won many recognitions and awards in several national and international chess tournaments. He has made India proud by winning many rewards in International platforms.

Viswanathan Anand is the pride of India. He is the first Indian boy to be the national champion in Chess at the age of 16. He was given the title of ‘wonder boy’ for his talent and achievements. His extra-ordinary vision in Chess has earned him both national and international recognitions.

Background of Viswanathan Anand

Viswanathan Anand was born on 11th December, 1969 in Chennai. He was fond of playing Chess from his childhood. He developed the passion and love for playing chess due to the constant inspiration of his mother, Susila Viswanathan. She taught him the basics of the game at a tender age. In childhood, Viswanathan was called ‘Vishy’ by his friends.

Career achievements of Viswanathan Anand

Before winning the phenomenal successes, Anand had to go through a number of failures. In 1995 he participated in PCA World Chess Championship against Gary Kasparov, but could not win.

In 1998, he participated in FIDE title but lost against Anatoli Karpov. But in the same year Anand won the Linares tournament with a good average rating of 2752.

In 2000, Anand became the FIDE World Chess Champion. For the 4 consecutive years, he has also been a consistent winner of the Chess Oscar Award.

In 2007 Anand had achieved great success in both Linares-Morelia and FIDE World Chess Champion tournament.
