Uttiramerur, a small town located in the south-west of Chennai, was earlier known as Chaturvedhi Mangalam and Panchavarada Khsetra. This town had e very well-developed democratic system followed in ever field. Uttiramerur possesses well planned roads and a good drainage system.
Uttiramerur, Chennai is a small town which was once upon a time known as Chaturvedhi Mangalam and Panchavarada Khsetra. This town was known for its democratic system that was followed in each and every field. Uttiramerur is located at a distance of 85 kilometers in the south-west of Chennai.
The Uttiramerur town has got well planned roads with developed drainage system. As per the research of eminent archaeologist Dr. R. Nagaswamy, this town was gifted to about a total of 1200 Vedic Brahmins in 750 AD.
The Sundharavaradhan Temple of Uttiramerur is very famous for its excellent architecture. It is a three storied temple where the gods on the ground floor are called 'varadhans' (boon givers). The idols that are present on

the ground floor are that of Anurudhravaradhan, Sundharavaradhan, Achutavaradhan and Kalyanavaradhan. The idols on the first floor are of Yoga Narasimmar, Bhagvath-Gita Krishnan with Arjun, Vaikunthavaradhan and Bhuvaragan with Lakshmi. Anathapadmanaban resides in the last floor of the temple. There are several other temples at Uttiramerur that dates back to 700 AD. Some of them are:

Uttiramerur of Chennai used to have several committees. These were water tank maintenance committee, treasury, infrastructure maintenance committee and educational committee. A strict election system was followed for these committees, where the contestant needed to be highly educated and belonging to the age group of 35-70 years.
