Chennai transportation is supported by a network of well linked roads and railways. Kamraj National and Anna International Airports serve a large number of domestic and international flights. Metropolitan Transport Corporation operates buses in Chennai. Omni bus is a private bus operator of the city. Chennai Central is the main railway station of the place.

Chennai transportation is supported by a good network of air, road, rail and water transport. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are a comfortable means of transport for moving around in Chennai. People can also hire vans, which are known as Maxi Cabs. The suburban area of Chennai has got mini private bus service. There are ships that frequently dock at the port of Chennai.

The Kamraj National and Anna International Airports, located at Meenambakkam is about 20 kilometers from the heart of the city of Chennai. These two terminals of Chennai Airport link the city with various domestic as well as international destinations.

Bus transport in Chennai is operated by the government owned Metropolitan Transport Corporation. The buses link different parts of the city and the suburban areas. The various places of Chennai are well connected to one another by a huge network of roads and highways.The other modes of road transportation are scooters, motor cycles and mopeds.
The long distance bus station of Chennai (both intra and inter state buses) is known as Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT), located at Inner Ring Road, Koyambedu. About 5 minutes from CMBT is located private bus operators called Omni bus.Buses connect Chennai with cities like Trichy, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Tirupathy, Madurai and Salem.

The two most important rail terminus of Chennai are the Chennai Central (main railway station located at EVR Periyar Road) and Egmore. They operate both meter gauge and broad gauge trains. Railways connect Chennai with important destinations like Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Chandigarh and Guwahati. Chennai Central is connected to Tambaram, Ennore and Avadi through the suburban railway transportation. Chennai Egmore primarily serves as a stop for those trains traveling within the state of Tamil Nadu. But it also serves for some inter-state trains.
