The New Indian Express is one among the Chennai newspapers published in English. The newspaper began its journey in the year 1932. Indian Express was the parent company of the newspaper. However, with times the Indian Express and The New Indian Express became separate publishing houses with their headquarters at Mumbai and Chennai respectively.

At the initial stages the newspaper functioned under the name The Indian Express, which was owned by Veradharajulu Naidu. However, it was taken over by Ramnath Goenka in the year 1999, after the death of Mr. Naidu. Due to personal problems in the Goenka

family after the demise of Ramnath Goenka, the newspaper group was divided. The northern editions were placed under the name Indian Express while the southern editions came to be known as The New Indian Express.
