Since its inception, the newspaper has been educating and informing the masses through its quality news features. In the year 1889, the newspaper was made a daily. This English language daily is the first to open an online news portal.

About The Hindu

Justice and fairness are the two principles, which the newspaper follows. The newspaper was the result of the collaboration between 6 young persons in the late 1870s. G. Subramania Aiyer was the driving force behind the enterprise. The other partners soon left and Aiyer single handedly took up the reins of the fledgling daily. The Hindu willfully followed a marked neutral stance during the British Raj.

The Beginning

The Hindu started as a news medium that was published once a week in Chennai. The newspaper
reached the stands every Wednesday. The popularity of the newspaper ensured that The Hindu began to be published three times a week, Friday, Monday and Wednesday.

After Indian Independence

The Indian Independence brought a sharp editorial change in The Hindu. The daily exhibited a preference for projecting leftist political views. The Hindu is reputed as being a reliable source of quality, in-depth and balanced information source.

The Hindu possess one of the more advanced printing presses among its peer Chennai newspapers. The newspaper employs latest means of news gathering, page designing and printing. Some of the printing centers are Bangalore, Kochi, New Delhi, Mumbai, Vizag, Manglore, Madurai, Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, and Vijayawada.
