Chennai tennis is a very popular sport of the Tamil Nadu state. Some great tennis players like Mahesh Bhupathi, Vijay Amritraj and Ramesh Krishnan are from Chennai. There are a large number of tennis academies in Chennai who provide training in the field. Chennai Open ATP Tennis Championships is held every year in the month of January at the SDAT Tennis Stadium.

Chennai Open
Every year, in the first week of January, the Chennai Open ATP Tennis championships are held with great enthusiasm. It was earlier known as the Gold Flake Open. It is being played since 1997. It takes place at the SDAT Tennis Stadium of Chennai. The event is co-sponsored by the government of Tamil Nadu. Chennai Open ATP Tennis championships organize two events, which are:
- Men’s Singles: It comprises of 32 players
- Men’s Doubles: It comprises of 16 teams.
Some notable players who have been a part of the Chennai Open are Mahesh Bhupathi, Boris Becker, Patrick Rafter, Leander Paes, Byron Black, Richard Krajicek, Carlos Moya and Yvgeny Kafelnikov.
