SDAT Tennis Stadium


SDAT Tennis Stadium, situated at Lake Area of Nungambakkam, is the host of the annual Chennai Open ATP Tennis championships. The stadium came up in 1995 under the efforts of the Tamil Nadu government. It has got a floodlit centre court with an accommodation capacity for 5,800 people.

SDAT Tennis Stadium, Chennai is situated at Lake Area of Nungambakkam. It is also known as the Nungambakkam Tennis Stadium. This tennis stadium possesses five hard courts. This also includes a floodlit centre court that can accommodate approximately 5,800 people. The stadium was founded in the year of 1995 by the Tamil Nadu Government. It is geographically located on the latitude and longitude of 13° 3' 22" North and 80° 14' 20" East respectively.

SDAT Tennis Stadium of Chennai remains the host of the annual Chennai Open ATP Tennis championships that takes place in the first week of January. The stadium was the venue for the South Asian Federation Games of 1995. The 1997 Indian Open tennis tournament was also played here. The ‘Goldflake Open’ game between Patrick Rafter and Boris Becker was held at this stadium in 1998 in which the former emerged victorious. Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, India’s doubles pair won the Goldflake
Open’s first three editions at this venue.

The December-January (2008-09) Chennai Open will be played here. In the 2007 event, Xavier Malisse emerged as the winner of the singles title and doubles with partner Dick Norman. Some of the nearby attractions are:
