Parthsarthy Temple, built in 8th century BC by the Pallavas is one of the oldest temples of Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The architectural works of the temple are simply awesome. There are also a number of shrines in the temple. Photography is not allowed in the Sanctum Santorum of the temple.
Parthsarthy Temple of Chennai was built by the Pallavas in 8th century BC at Triplicane. However, this temple was renovated in the 16th century by the kings of Vijaynagar. The word 'Parthsarthy' means charioteer. The splendid architecture with its colored gopuram is mention worthy. Lord Krishna (Sri Venkata Krishnaswamy) is the presiding deity of this temple. He has got a conch in his right hand. He is also known as Geeta Charya.
During the Purattasi month, on every Saturdays, special prayers are chanted in praise of the Lord. Vaikunta Ekadashi is celebrated by reciting 4000 poems, which is known as 'Tamil Vedam'. The Brhamotsavam is celebrated with great dedication every year in this temple.
There is a separate shrine at the Parthsarthy Temple dedicated to Sri Ranganatha.

There are images of all the alwars and Acharya of Sri Vaishnava sect in this temple. Outside the temple, there are separate shrines that have been built for the Namalwar and Peialwar. Photography is strictly prohibited in the Sanctum Santorum of the temple. For getting to the Chennai Parthsarthy Temple, one can avail bus, cabs or auto-rickshaws.
