Otteri Nullah

Otteri Nullah is one of the waterways in Chennai. It runs through the northern part of the city. The length of the river is about 12 kilometers. It starts from the Mullam Village and proceeds through Purasawalkam via Carnatic Mills and Buckimham and finally at Basin Bridge, it meets with the Buckimham Canal.

The Otteri Nullah waterway is one of the major exits for rain waters in North of Chennai.
Due to the unplanned drainage system of the city, Otteri Nullah is also polluted like the other water bodies of Chennai. In the end of 2005, the northern areas of the city were flooded during heavy rail fall. The polluted water of Otteri Nullah caused diseases like Diarrhea.

The Government of Tamil Nadu has taken initiatives to keep Otteri Nullah pollution-free over the years and the cleaning process is still going on.
