Natyanjali Dance Festival


Natyanjali dance festival is one of the popular cultural festivals in India. The festival is a platform to the dancers to showcase their talent in the world of performing arts. The festival begins on the day of Mahasivaratri and continues for 5 days. This Chennai dance festival takes place in the Chidambaram city at the Chidambaram temple premises. The festival is conducted by the tourism department of the Tamil Nadu and the Indian Government and also by the Natyanjali Trust. Natyanjali dance festival is held for five days during the month of February and March and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The vibrant dance festival takes place in the city of Chidambaram at the temple premises. The city of Chidambaram is situated along the coast of Bay of Bengal and is 245 kilometers from Chennai. The city, also known as 'the city of cosmic dancer', houses the
ancient Chidambaram temple. The golden roof, the carved pillars and the bronze image of Nataraja are the characteristics of the temple. The carved pillars of the Chidambaram temple are also pieces of art as these portray 108 poses of Nataraja or Lord Shiva in his dancing form.
