Madras University is one of the oldest universities of India. It has been granted a 5 star status by NAAC. Many colleges in South India are offering degree and doctoral courses to the students under the affiliation of the University of Madras.
University of Madras is one of the pioneering universities of India. It is situated in Chennai city. Establishment of Madras University was initiated by the Publics Petition in 11th November, 1839. George Norton constituted The University Board as the President in 1840. By the Act of the Legislative Council of India, Madras University was organized as a Model of London University in 1857.
