Madras High Court is one of the three major High Courts in India. The High Court is situated at the Presidency Town in Chennai. Madras High Court is also an appellate court which controls the entire state.
Through the Approval of the Letters Patent by Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, the court was established in Madras on 26th June of 1862. This is the highest ranked judiciary in Tamil Nadu which possesses the entire authority on Chennai city. Specified by the Letters Patent & Special Original Jurisdiction, the High Court also exercises its power under civil and criminal law as well as original jurisdictions.
Chief justice is the head of the Madras High Court. He is also bestowed with the power of administration of justice. In the High Court of Madras, 40 Hon’ble judges are also working with the Chief Justice.
