IIT Madras

IIT Madras was formally inaugurated by Prof. Humayun Kabir in 1959. This institute has got 15 departments and a Board of Governors manages the administration. A number of course based and research based programs are offered by this institute.

IIT Madras (Indian Institute of Technology Madras) was established in 1959. It was formally inaugurated by Prof. Humayun Kabir, Union Minister for Scientific Research and Cultural Affairs. The other seven IITs are located at Mumbai, Guwahati, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Roorkee, Chennai and Delhi. IIT Madras is located at a distance of 14 kilometers from the Central Railway Station.

IIT Madras has got a total of 15 departments. Besides, there are research centers and laboratories for advanced study purpose. This autonomous statutory organization is centrally administered by the IITs' Council of the Government of India.

The institute has its own Board of Governors who controls and manages the administrative functions. The courses, curriculum, and examination related matters are decided by the Senate comprising of the faculties of the institute. There are 3 Senate Sub-Committees, Finance Committee, Works Committee, Library Advisory Committee and the Board of Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research serving various functions.

Building Technology and Construction Management, Port Management, Software Engineering, Computational Mechanics, Digital Signal Processing and Automotive Technology are some of the user oriented programs of the college that leads to M Tech degrees.
