The Covelong Beach was originally built by Saadat Ali. He was the Nawab of Carnatic. Primarily the beach was built as one of the ports of South India. In 1752 it was destroyed by the Governor General Lord Clive. The Covelong beach of Chennai is separated from the mainland by the canal, which runs from Chennai to Mahabalipuram.
