Vidhana Soudha is the legislature of Karnataka and is made of granite. The foundation of this majestic edifice was laid by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 13th July, 1951. The building stands on an area of 60 acres. The Vidhana Soudha is the brainchild of Sri K Hanumanthaiya, who served as chief minister of Mysore from 1951 to 1956. Sri K Hanumanthaiya wanted to symbolize the legislative sovereignty of the people through the Vidhana Soudha. It took 5 years to complete the building, which is now considered to be one among the Bangalore attractions.

The Vidhana Soudha of Bangalore is one of the largest legislative buildings of the country. The building is built according to the Dravidian style of architecture. The Vidhana Soudha is rectangular and measures 700 feet from north to south. From east to west the building has the length of 350 feet. The grand stairs of the building are special features of the legislative assembly. Deep friezes, heavy pediments domical finials, chaithya arches, kapotha cornices, richly carved bases and capitals mark the richness of the Dravidian style of architecture. The Vidhan Soudha also features a State banquet Hall and Assembly Hall. The Legislative Assembly Chamber and the Legislative Council Chamber is situated on the first floor of the building.
