Mekedatu is one of the popular destinations that can be covered on a tour from Bangalore. Located at a distance of about 90 kilometers south of Bangalore, the place has developed into a popular picnic spot. According to the vernaculars, the name 'mekedatu' means a goat's leap.

Mekedatu can be reached easily from Bangalore via car. It is the place, where rivers Cauvery and Arkavathi flow after converging at the Sangam. There is a narrow gorge through which these rivers flow. As the passage is narrow, the water gushes with full force. There are amazing landscape features that surround the deep gorge and the scene is breathtaking. At Sangam, there is a temple that is dedicated to Lord Sangameshwara.
