Mavalli Tiffin Rooms (MTR) Bangalore is a popular vegetarian restaurant in Bangalore. It has made its mark among the famous Bangalore restaurants by selling pre-packaged food items since its inception in the year 1924. Mavalli Tiffin Rooms are popularly known as MTR and specialize in serving various vegetarian dishes. Besides, the restaurant also caters sweet dishes like ladu and badam halwa and also South Indian dishes. Mavalli Tiffin Rooms of Bangalore are also known to be the inventor of the famous dish Rava idli. The restaurant stands on the Lal Bagh Road and is close to the Lal Bagh Garden, which is a famous attraction of Bangalore.
About MTR
Parampalli Yajnanarayana Maiya together with his brothers started the Mavalli Tiffin Rooms (MTR) in the year 1924. At the initial stages MTR dealt in selling pre-packed food items. However during the Indian

emergency period in 1970s,Mavalli Tiffin Rooms of Bangalore suffered a setback in their business. Due to the Food Control Act passed during the emergency period, MTR had to sell food items at a low price. They shifted from selling pre-packaged food items to ready-to-eat snacks like rasam and chutneys. Presently MTR runs both the pre-packaged and the restaurant business.
MTR Today
Today MTR comprises two floors. The ground floor is a fast food outlet serving snacks and tiffin. The first floor has tables and chairs for the convenience of the customers who can sit comfortably and enjoy their lunch. The restaurant is presently headed by Hemamalini Maiya, granddaughter of Yajnanarayana Maiya. The food items of Mavalli Tiffin Rooms are also exported to countries like United Kingdom, Persian Gulf countries and the United States of America.
