The city of Bengaluru is administered by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palika or BBMP. This is a newly formed administrative body of Bangalore developed in 2007. It is a joint unit of the former wards of Bangalore Mahanagar Palika (BMP) and the 7 city municipal councils of Bangalore. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palika is the 4th largest municipal corporation of India.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike is governed by a city council. The council is run by the elected representatives known as the 'corporators'. Every 'corporator' remains in power for 5 years. The mayor and deputy mayor of the council is elected for 1 year through indirect votes.
BBMP, at present, is run by a commissioner and an administrator elected by the state government. The administrative body is accountable for the

infrastructural necessities of the city. To execute and prepare various civic and infrastructural projects, BBMP works together with Bangalore Development Authority and Bangalore Agenda task Force.
