Established by Emperor Joseph II, Budapest University of Technology and Economics was the first engineering institute in the country.
The Budapest University of Technology and Economics was established as the Institutum Geometrio-Hydrotechnicum in 1782 by Emperor Joseph II. It acquired the title of the Technical University of Budapest. The courses that were taught during this point of time included Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical Engineering and Architecture. The faculty of Transportation engineering came into being in 1955.
The Budapest University of Technology and Economics in Hungary at present comprises of a total of about 110 departments, 400 research scholars, 1100 lecturers and other students belonging to various departments of study. The university receives students from each and every corner of the world.
