Thomas Mann Gymnasium was the result of a joint endeavor of Hungary and Germany to establish a school which facilitates the education of German-speaking children living in Hungary.

Set up in 1990, the Thomas Mann Gymnasium was previously known as Deutsche Schule Budapest. Offering quality educational facilities to German as well as Hungarian students, the school is considered as one of the elite educational institutes of Budapest. Part of the network of German schools located in different parts of the world, the Thomas Mann Gymnasium is privately owned.
The combined efforts of the Federal Republic of Hungary, the Federal Republic of Germany, the city of Budapest and the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg led to

The Thomas Mann Gymnasium has a student strength of approximately 500. The necessary infrastructural facilities like classrooms, laboratories, library, playgrounds, etc. are also well-maintained. Providing education equaling international standards, the school is composed of elementary and high school sections.

The medium of instruction in the Thomas Mann Gymnasium are German and Hungarian. The curriculum is based on two streams- arts and sciences.
