History of the Budapest Spring Festival
The history of the Budapest Spring Festival dates back to the year 1981 when it was first organized and the event completed its silver jubilee celebration in the year 2005. This event had mainly started in order to attract international tourists to Hungary during the spring season, which was usually a regarded as a dead season. In the initial years, concerts, exhibitions and theatrical performances were held but gradually more and more artists started taking interest in the event and people even started showing greater interest in touring the city as well. Unlike the Budapest Autumn Festival which celebrates contemporary art works, the Budapest Spring Festival salutes the classical and local culture of the Hungarian people.

Events at the Budapest Spring Festival
The Budapest Spring Festival comprises of a unique blend of jazz performances, orchestral concerts, crossover shows, operas, chamber concerts, film shows, theatre, church concerts, folk music and folk dance shows and a host of other interesting cultural events. These events are held at various venues in the Budapest city like Academy of Music, Italian Institute of Culture, Palace of Arts, Matthias Church, Hungarian State Opera House, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest Operetta Theatre and Marble Hall of the Hungarian Radio amongst others.

The 2007 Budapest Spring Festival had many internationally renowned performers and stellar performances like Trevor Pinnock, jazz by Nigel Kennedy, theatrical performance of Homer's Odyssey and Chekov's The Cherry Orchard, premiere show of Altar Boyz and a ballet based on Gone with the Wind amongst a host of other.
2008 Budapest Spring Festival
The 2008 Budapest Spring Festival will be organized from March 14-30th and will include a host of international and local artists. The ticket rates vary for each of the programs and can be bought at the venue or at important ticket offices of Budapest.
