Budapest Parliament, located in Kossuth Lajos tér, extends over the stretch of land between the two bridges namely Margaret Bridge and Chain Bridge. Access to this Budapest Tourist Attraction is quite easy. You can avail the various options of traveling via M2 (red) metro, bus, tram and trollies.

Construction of the Parliament House

The idea of a parliament house in Budapest was conceived during the Reform Era of the country. However, the construction of the building was undertaken only in 1884. Though completed in 1896, Budapest Parliament was officially inaugurated in 1902 to commemorate the completion of 1000 years of the establishment of Hungary.

Architectural style of Budapest Parliament

Inspired by the Houses of Parliament of London, the architect of Budapest Parliament, Imre Steindl, blended together various architectural styles to construct this edifice.
Although dominated by the neo-Gothic style, the building also showcases the influence of the Renaissance(in the dome) and Baroque(the base). Moreover, the individual artistic flair of the designer is also evident in the structure.

Budapest Parliament-The Extent

The size of the Budapest Parliament building puts it on the third position in the list of the largest parliament houses in the world. 268 m in length and 123 m in width, the structure covers an area of 18,000 sq m. The entrances numbering up to 27 provide access to the interiors of the building. Comprising of 691 rooms, the parliament house has a central dome of 96 m height.

Housing a wealth of artifacts, Budapest Parliament is a treasure trove exemplifying the history and culture of the country. The major attraction in the building is the Hungarian Coronation Regalia comprising the Holy Crown, a Renaissance sword, the scepter and the orb. The statues and paintings adorning the building are complemented by the architectural grandeur of the parliament. The majestic Grand Staircase, the Hunter's Hall and the Dome Hall, the splendid frescoes and tinted glass windows enhance the beauty of this structure.
