Budapest Metro


Cheap, convenient and easy, the Budapest metro links all the places of the city. Three metro lines in Budapest, M1 or the yellow line, M2 or the red line and M3 or the blue line. Transit Travel in Budapest

Budapest Metro is one of the easiest and most convenient mode of transport in the capital of Hungary. Organized and efficient, the metro system of Budapest has a vast network and connect all the areas of the city. Budapest metro consists of three lines, the yellow line, the blue line and the red line.

M1, also known as Millennium Underground is the yellow line. M2 is the red line and M3 is the blue line. M1 connects the city center, Vörösmarty tér with Mexikói út. The line was constructed during the later period of 19th century and became the first metro line in the whole of Europe. Presently, there are modern trains running along this line, thus linking the city center with Budapest City Park.

The red line or M2 connects the eastern region of Budapest with the western parts of the city. The Eastern Railway Station called Keleti Pályaudvar is located on this metro line. The M2 runs from Deli pu in the west to Ors vezer tere in the east.

The third of the metro lines in Budapest, M3 or the blue line runs from Ujpest varoskapu in the north to Kobanya-Kispest in the south, thus connecting the northern areas of Budapest with the south. On this line is the Western Railway Station, also called Nyugati Pályaudvar

Metro Stations

The metro stations in Budapest are as follows:
  • Stations along the yellow line include Vörösmarti tér, Deák tér, Opera,Bajcsy u., Kodály Körönd, Hosök tere,Széchenyi F. etc.

  • Stations along the red line consist of Déli pu., Moszkva tér, Kossuth tér, Batthyány tér, Astória, Blaha Lujza tér, Népstadion etc.

  • Stations along the blue line are Gyöngyösi u., Forgách u., Árpád híd, Dózsa Gy., Lehel tér, Nyugati Pu., Arany János u., Klinikák, Ecseri út etc.

Time tables of the metro in Budapest are available at the metro stations which provide the time of the arrival of the trains. The first number mentioned on the time table is the car of the metro and the second number is of the door.

The metro tickets require the validity date on them which can be obtained from the validating machines. Without the validity date printed on the metro ticket in Budapest, the ticket is invalid. The prices of the metro tickets vary according to the distance. Passengers can also avail the Budapest Card in place of the metro tickets. But the validity of the card remains only up to the city limits.
