Medieval Budapest bears the influence of several Germanic tribal communities and Magyars. Árpád who was the first monarch of Magyars had a great contribution in the development of the terrain.
Budapest: an ancient settlement
The history of Budapest the captivating capital of Hungary dates back to 1st century BC. Primarily built by the Celts this city was invaded and influenced by the Romans during the early era. But in the medieval ages the scenario was totally changed while Romans were backed off by the belligerent Huns. Various tribal communities, Slavs, Lombards passed over this terrain until 9th Century.
Magyars and Árpád
Magyars invaded this place during 896 AD. Magyars

are known as the origin of the present day Hungarians and Árpád was their first ruler. The kinfolk of Árpád spread across the Csepel Island which includes highly fertile land areas and encircled by the River Danube. At present this wide area is known as the southern region of Budapest. Buda, the brother of Árpád added the name to the new colony settled by the bank of Danube.
Budapest during 12th Century
Hungary was transformed into a Christian country during the rule of Árpád Empire. The history of Hungary suggests that the proper advancement and progress of Buda and Pest happened after 12th century. This enlightenment was brought by the German, Walloon and French colonizers who came with the intention of trade and business. But during 1241-42 the Mongol invasion ravaged both of the cities. After that the German settlers reconstructed the city of Buda again and renamed this city as "Ofen".
