Designed on the plans of Samu Petz, the Great Market Hall was constructed between the year 1894 to 1896. It was later renovated after a ire destroyed the roof of the structure in the year 1896. The market complex in Budapest was finally opened to the public in the year 1897. A modern venture of its times, the Great Market Hall also proved to be the commercial hub of the country. The building underwent another renovation in between 1991 to 1994.
