Budapest, the capital city and main hub of Hungary, has a very well-developed transportation system which makes it easier for tourists to get in Budapest.
Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, is an expansive city with all the modern comforts required for a better life. Getting in Budapest is not much of a problem because of the well-developed transportation system of the city. One can choose to reach Budapest either by flight or bus or train and can travel around the city.
By Air:
The Ferihegy International Airport in Budapest is about 24km south-east from central part of the city. The airport is well-served by more than three dozen international flights. Malév Hungarian Airlines, which is the national airline, has non-stop direct flights to North America, many European cities and Middle Eastern countries. There are many car rental companies that are located at the airport and help the visitors to reach the city.
By Train:
Visitors can also get in Budapest through the extensive rail network of the city. The Hungarian State Railway has connections with the European rail system and the city has three international railway station—Western (Nyugati), Eastern (Keleti) and Southern (Deli). Most international airlines arrive and depart from the Keleti station.

By Bus:
One can also reach Budapest by catching any of the international buses which arrive and depart from the Pest’s Népliget bus terminus. Buses plying to southwest Hungary can be caught from Etele tér bus terminus in Buda, Stadionok bus terminus serves cities on the eastern part and Árpád Bridge terminus serves buses till Danube.
Getting Around Budapest
Apart from these international airlines, buses and trains, getting around the Budapest city is also not much of a problem because of the extensive transportation system. One can opt for taxis and rental cars to roam around the city. One can also opt for the rails. There are three metro rails in the city—Blue, Red and Yellow Line. The Blue Line goes up to Danube, Red Line goes up to Pest and Yellow Line goes up to Hero’s Square. All these metro trains run from 4.30 to 11.30 pm.
While some of the tram lines operate till 11 pm, some others operate all throughout the evening. The transit trains, known as HÉV are ideal for visiting the nearby tourist attractions. Local buses are available from different parts of the city at regular intervals.
With all these developed means of transport serving the city of Budapest, travelers should not face much of a problem for getting in Budapest.
