Gábor Demszky, the present Mayor of Budapest was elected in the year 1990 and has been holding this prestigious position for quite some time; after he won the consecutive Mayoral elections of 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006.
Gábor Demszky is the present mayor of Budapest who is widely admired as an eminent Hungarian political leader. Apart from a politician, Demszky is also a sociologist and a lawyer as well. Gábor Demszky was elected to the post of Mayor in the year 1990 and subsequently won the Mayoral elections of 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2006. In fact, he is one of the longest serving Mayors who has won the Mayoral elections for the maximum number of times.
Gábor Demszky: His early life and education
Born in 1952 in the city of Budapest, Gabor received his secondary level certificate in 1970 and then joined ELTE with the aim of continuing his further education at the Faculty of Political Science and Law. Meanwhile, Demszky got deeply involved in politics and was ousted from the university in 1972.Demszky was permitted to continue his education in Law and in the year 1976 he achieved his Law degree.

Political career of Gábor Demszky
Mr. Demszky was one of the founders of an organization called SZETA which was in opposition to the contemporary government. Till 1981, Gábor Demszky served for a periodical called Világosság. At the same time he was also engaged in a research project on sociology which was conducted by the famous Hungarian sociologist István Kemény.
Demszky was not only expelled from his job for his involvement in several political activities but also was restricted to move freely or travel in any part of the country. His periodicals were also banned. It was much later that Demszky again got involved with the publication of press periodicals and started publishing articles that were considered to be derogatory or illegal. In the later half of 1981, Demszky in collaboration with Laszlo Rajk founded AB Független Kiadó or AB Independent Publishing House.
Gábor Demszky was elected to the post of a Member of Parliament from District VII, in the year1990 and has brought about several reforms and changes in Budapest ever since he came to power.
