Ferenc Puskás is a name that raids the sports arena in Hungary. A renowned Hungarian footballer of the 1930s and the 1940s, Ferenc Puskás was born in the year 1927 on the 2nd of April. He was recognized for his contribution to Hungarian football, where he has a made a mark with his record 84 goals in 85 international matches and his remarkable 514 goals in 529 matches in the Spanish and Hungarian league tournaments.
Ferenc Puskás: His life and achievements
Ferenc Puskás was born in Budapest and had gained the inherent qualities of a footballer from his father who was a coach in the football club of Kispest A.C. He was later taken in the club as a trainee under the guidance of his father. After having attained the qualifying age for participating in the league matches, he was taken in the team that represented the club in a tournament against Nagyvarad in the year 1943.
The team of Kispest A.C. was later renamed as the Hungarian Army when it came under the administration of the Hungarian Ministry of Defence in the year 1949. This team was also known as Honved in the later periods. It was during his tenure in this team that Ferenc Puskás showcased his skills in the sport and helped the club win five Hungarian league titles. He was also adjudged the top goal scorers in the leagues that were held in the year 1947-48, 1949-50, 1950 and 1953.
By the year 1948, he was considered the foremost goal scorers in the whole of Europe.

In the year 1950, he was appointed the captain of the Hungarian national team referred to as the Mighty Magyars. Some of the other prominent members of the team included Sándor Kocsis, Zoltán Czibor, József Bozsik and Nándor Hidegkuti. Then began a completely new phase in the history of Hungarian football. With Ferenc Puskás as the captain, the team met with numerous successes in the following years. The achievements of the Mighty Magyars included:
- 1952- Became the Olympic Champions. Ferenc Puskás was one of the highest scorers in the Olympics where he scored four times.
- 1953- England lost to the Magyars on a margin of 3 goals at the Wembley Stadium. The Magyars were the first non-UK team to have defeated the national team of England. In the same year the team was declared the Central European Champions. Hungary also won over Italy in the Stadio Olimpico.
- 1995- Ferenc Puskás was declared a top 20th century scorer by the IFFHS.
The second phase of his career began when he joined the Real Madrid team in the year 1958, where he exhibited a brilliant spirit in the games against Elche CF club, FC Barcelona. He also earned the Pichichi four times for his spectacular performance in the Spanish Leagues of 1959-60, 1960-61, 1962-63, 1963-64. During his tenure in the Real Madrid, the club also won the La liga championships and the Copa del Generalísimo in the year 1962.
