The gamut of public and private schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions in the city serve as the centers of Budapest Education.

The progress of Budapest education as well as that of the whole country is evident from the literacy rate of Hungary which stands at approximately 99.4 %. Education in Hungary is compulsory for students up to 18 years of age.
