Marktkirche is a Lutheran church of the city of Hanover. It is also known as ‘The Church on the Marketplace’. This church was established in the 14th century. It however was destroyed during the World War II during an air raid in 1943. The church was re-built in 1952. It happens to be one of the largest churches in Lower-Saxony area.
Marktkirche of Hanover is a Hallenkirche. It means that the side naves are equally high as the middle nave. A monumental saddleback roof rises above the three naves. This church has been built in a Neo-Gothic style of architecture. The portals of the church have scenes from German history. It was designed by Gerhard Marcks.
