Eilenriede Park is a well-known tourist destination of Hanover that once belonged to Dukes Wenzeslaus and Albrecht of Sachsen. This park covers an area of about 650 hectares of land. It has inherited its name from the alder trees that used to grow here abundantly. But now a large queue of oak, beech, pine, birch and larch can be found here. It is covered by about 75% of deciduous trees. The Erlebnis Hanover Zoo is located in the northern side of this park.
There is a grass maze in the shape of a wheel in the northern Eilenriede. There are also a number of monuments in the northern part of Hanover Eilenriede Park. These include:
- Memorial to Henry Christian Burckhardt
|
- Two bronze pelicans
- The Princess's group
- Waldersee Monument
Eilenriede Park of Hanover has a number of restaurants and cafes for the visitors. Besides, there is a mini golf course in the park. The park has facilities for cycling, hiking, walking, jogging and skating. This park is even bigger than the Central Park (340 hectares) of New York. One can access this park by bus numbers 128 and 134. Tram Line 11 also leads to this place.
