City Hall is one of the premier Hanover attractions. The hall was opened for public visit in 1913. The building was previously known as Neues Rathaus. Later it underwent renovation and came to be known as the City Hall or the Town Hall of Hanover. The hall was designed by Halmhuber and Eggert. Today the hall is one of the important landmarks of the city. The City Hall houses exhibits of various periods of the city's rich history.

of the elevator. From the dome visitors may enjoy the panoramic view of the city. Below the dome lies the central hall. Visitors to the hall will find four models of the city. The models represent different historical periods of Hanover. The hall displays pre-war Hanover of 1939, post war Hanover of 1945, Hanseatic Hanover of 1969 and the modern developing Hanover. An official guided tour provides an exclusive glimpse to the Council of Chambers.
The City Hall is home to the present mayor of the city, Dr Herbert Schmalstieg. Political sessions and receptions are also held at the Town hall of Hanover. The hall represents a unique piece of architecture of the European history.
